Vietnamese education system and its impact on competitiveness and the export of the country

| Abstract: | Hlavním cílem této práce je ověřit, zda-li je teoretický poznatek o vlivu kvality vzdělávacího systému na konkurenceschopnost platný i v případě Vietnamu a s využitím SWOT analýzy navrhnout určitá doporučení, která by Vietnamu pomohla zvýšit jeho konkurenceschopnost. K posouzení vlivu používám korelační koeficient, který měří závislost kvality vzdělávacího systému, a to jednak primárního vzdělávacího systému (pro zhodnocení jeho kvality využívám data Světového ekonomického fóra), jednak sekundárního a terciárního vzdělávání (jehož kvalitu odráží počet patentů zaregistrovaných tuzemci ve Vietnamu), a konkurenceschopnosti měřené dle Global Competitiveness Report od Světového ekonomického fóra. Vedlejším cílem je zjistit, zda-li je teoretický poznatek o vlivu počtu lidí, kteří se zapojí do primárního a sekundárního vzdělání na komparativní výhody platný konkrétně i v případě Vietnamu. K posouzení vlivu opět používám korelační koeficient. Komparativní hodnoty měřím pomocí Balassova indexu RCA a Normalizovaného indexu projevené komparativní výhody, který je přesnější než klasický Balassův index RCA. Na závěr taktéž navrhuji určitá doporučení. Posuzuji data z let 2012-2017. Pomocí korelační analýzy byla ověřena platnost výše uvedených teoretických poznatků a byla navržena určitá doporučení, která by vedla ke zvýšení konkurenceschopnosti Vietnamu a ke zvýšení komparativních výhod. Mezi tato doporučení patří zmodernizovat curriculum tak, aby odpovídalo současným potřebám trhu, zvýšit plat vietnamských učitelů proto, aby neměli motivaci odcházet do soukromého sektoru či do zahraničí, zlepšit školní infrastrukturu, zlepšit jazykovou vybavenost učitelů, využít efektivněji investice do vzdělání a umožnit příslušníkům národnostních menšin rovnější podmínky ke vzdělávání. Hlavním limitem této práce je nejen nedostatek dat týkajících se Vietnamu, ale i nedostatek teoretických dat o vlivu vzdělávacího systému na ekonomiku země. |

| Abstract: | The main goal of this thesis is to verify whether the theoretical knowledge about the impact of the quality of the education system on competitiveness is valid in the case of Vietnam and with the use of SWOT analysis to propose certain recommendations that would help Vietnam to increase its competitiveness. To assess the impact, I use a correlation coefficient that measures the dependence of the quality of the education system, both the primary education system (I use data from the World Economic Forum to assess its quality) and secondary and tertiary education (the quality is reflected by the number of patents registered by residents in Vietnam), and competitiveness measured by the Global Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum. The secondary goal is to find out whether the theoretical knowledge about the influence of the number of people who participate in primary and secondary education on comparative advantages, is valid in the case of Vietnam. Again, I use a correlation coefficient to assess the effect. I measure comparative values using the Balassa index RCA and the Normalized index of comparative advantage, which is more accurate than the classical Balassa index RCA. Finally, I also suggest some recommendations. I am assessing data from 2012-2017. Using correlation analysis, the validity of the above theoretical knowledge was verified and certain recommendations were proposed, which would lead to an increase in Vietnam's competitiveness and an increase in comparative advantages. These recommendations include modernizing the curriculum so the curriculum would meet current market needs, increasing the salaries of Vietnamese teachers so that they do not have an incentive to go to the private sector or abroad, improve school infrastructure, improve teachers' language skills, use investment in education more effectively and secure more equal conditions for education for members of national minorities. The main limit of this work is not only the lack of data related to Vietnam, but also the lack of theoretical data on the impact of the education system on the country's economy. |
