Projectification of the construction industry in the Czech Republic

Project management is a relatively new field which has been dynamically developing in the last decade. This dynamic development brought several trends. Projectification belongs among these trends which is very often mentioned in project management literature. However, there is not enough empirical evidence that would support the hypothesis that the society is transforming from linear organization structures to project oriented structures. Construction field belongs among the most projectified fields. This thesis focuses on project management in the construction sector. The main aim is to show results of empirical evidence of projectification in the field NACE F- construction in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the relationships between projectification, project success and project management techniques are tested. Quantitative data are collected through online survey and tested in statistical software Stata in order to fulfill the aim. Statistical tests used are descriptive statistics, Crombach’s alpha, Pearson’s correlation and regression. The thesis concludes that the projectification measured by hours spend on projects to total working hours in a company is lower that research from other countries suggests. Construction field is still highly projectified compared to other sectors of economy despite of the fact that the empirical evidence suggests lower projectification in the Czech Republic. Moreover, the results of statistical testing show no evidence of relationship between the degree projectification of a company and the company’s project success. It also brings an evidence that companies with more successful projects use project management techniques more often.
