| Abstract: | Given that ESG investing constitutes a major force across global financial markets, this thesis aims to investigate the relationship between Morningstar ESG ratings and performance of mutual funds available for European customers. The paper based its conclusions on an extensive literature review and a regression analysis. The quantitative models were based on 3-, 5- and 10-year trailing returns. The results showed that ESG rating is significant and positive in explaining fund returns. In fact, the social factor resulted in being the key driver for performance, compared to the environmental and governance factors. The research further proved that when funds increase their investment in sin industries, the ESG rating tends to decrease. |

| Abstract: | Vzhledem k tomu, že ESG investice představují významnou sílu na globálních finančních trzích, má tato práce za cíl prozkoumat vztah mezi Morningstar ESG ratingem a výnosy podílových fondů dostupných evropským zákazníkům. Závěry této práce jsou založeny na rozsáhlém průzkumu literatury a na regresní analýze. Kvantitativní modely byly založeny na 3, 5 a 10leté koncové návratnosti. Výsledky ukázaly, že ESG rating je významný a pozitivní při vysvětlování výnosů fondů. Sociální faktor se ukázal být klíčovým faktorem výkonu ve srovnání s faktory životního prostředí a správy. Výzkum dále prokázal, že pokud fondy zvyšují své investice do hříšných odvětví, ESG rating má tendenci klesat. |
