| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce analyzuje faktory, které přiměly Britské impérium udělit v roce 1947 Indii samostatnost. První část práce rozebírá poměry v Britské Indii, které vedly k sílícímu nacionalismu. Druhá část analyzuje konkrétní a hlavní příčiny britského odchodu z Indie společně s jejich charakteristikou a postupným vývojem. Třetí část práce se zabývá průběhem a důsledky získání nezávislosti a rozdělení Indie. Bylo zjištěno, že hlavními faktory odchodu Britů z Indie byly nacionalismus, ekonomický bankrot mateřské země na konci druhé světové války, směřování pozornosti na domácí problémy v Británii, proměna společenského vnímání imperialismu a mezinárodní nátlak světových mocností v čele se Spojenými státy americkými. |

| Abstract: | This bachelor´s thesis analyses the factors that made the British Empire grant India independence in 1947. The first part of this work focuses on the local conditions in India under British rule which led to the growth of nationalism there. The middle section examines the specific and main causes of the British withdrawal from India, characterises them and shows their gradual development. The final part deals with the process and consequences of India´s division and its independence. It was determined that nationalism, the economic bankruptcy of the mother country at the end of World War II, the diversion of attention to British domestic problems, the metamorphosis of the social perception of imperialism and international pressure of the world powers, headed by the United States of America, were all deciding reasons for the British to leave India. |
