Comparison of health systems of Great Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany in 2009–2019

This bachelor thesis compares the health systems of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Great Britain, which both operate on completely different principles and both countries use a completely different model of the health system. First, the sources of funding, health care expenditures, the development of demographic indicators and the availability of medical care in the monitored countries are analyzed separately, and then the two countries are compared using the selected indicators. The British healthcare system is based on general tax funding, which is an example of the Beveridge model. The German health system operates on the principle of compulsory health insurance and is therefore one of the representatives of countries using the Bismarck model. Although the British health care system is more cost-effective, as total health care expenditure is lower than in Germany, the care provided is better in Germany based on comparative indicators. The Federal Republic of Germany has a significantly higher number of hospital beds, lower infant mortality rates, shorter waiting times for medical examinations and a higher number of doctors. The comparison of the health systems of the monitored countries is a current topic and will clarify the different ways of financing the health care of the countries and how the provided health care is related to that, which is necessary for the health of the population.
