Transportation of goods in reefer containers on the example of MSC

This diploma thesis dealt with a specific sector of maritime logistics - the transportation of containerized goods under controlled temperature. A specific example from real practice was used. The partial steps during transport from the receipt of the order from the customer to the delivery to destination were demonstrated. Furthermore, an analysis of the current market for the transport of temperature-sensitive cargo was performed, focusing on containerized shipments. The research was based on general theoretical methods, ie description, analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization and analogy. The primary goal of the thesis was to clarify the practical side of realization of goods under controlled temperature in maritime freight transport using specific means of transport and subsequent design of process optimization in the flow of empty refrigerated containers and shipment tracking throughout the transport chain. The main research question was whether it is possible from the point of view of the selected shipping company to streamline the process of transporting goods under controlled temperature. Research has shown that there are indeed ways in which the whole process can be made more efficient. These recommendations include the reduction of empty containers and the use of smart container technology.
