Yemen’s crisis as an implication of proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran

| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce „Jemenská krize jako důsledek války mezi Saudskou Arábií a Íránem“ řeší vnitrostátní válku v Jemenu, do které mimo jiné zasahují regionální mocnosti jako je Saudská Arábie a Írán. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, zda se jedná o válku v zastoupení a jakým způsobem externí mocnosti podporují jemenské aktéry. V návaznosti na cíl práce byly stanoveny dvě výzkumné otázky: „Jak se projevu zahraničněpolitické vměšování Saudské Arábie a Íránu v Jemenu?“ a „Jaký vliv má válka v zastoupení na situaci v Jemenu?“ Vyhodnocování probíhalo na základě rešerše informací převážně z cizojazyčných sekundárních zdrojů, odborných prací a databází mezinárodních organizací. Analýza situace v Jemenu poskytla závěr, že se jedná o válku v zastoupení pouze v případě Íránu, který nepřímo podporuje hnutí Husíů skrze vojenskou techniku, výcvik a finanční prostředky. Na druhou stranu Saudská Arábie poskytuje podporu režimu prezidenta Abd Rabú Mansúr Hádího a zároveň se přímo vojensky zapojuje do konfliktu. Humanitární krize probíhala v Jemenu již před začátkem války, nicméně z komparace situace v Jemenu před a po začátku války jasně vyplývá, že válka humanitární krizi mnohem více prohloubila. Jedním z důvodů byla například saudská blokáda přístavu Hudajdá, skrze který proudí humanitární pomoc. Od dubna roku 2021 probíhá mezi Saudskou Arábií a Íránem jednání, která by mohla vést k ukončení války. V závěru práce je výsledné zkoumání rozšířeno na mezinárodní vztahy. |

| Abstract: | The bachelor's thesis " Yemen’s crisis as an implication of proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran" addresses the civil war in Yemen which also involves regional powers such as Saudi Arabia and Iran. This study aimed to find out whether a proxy war plays a role in this matter and in which way the external powers support Yemeni entities. Following the aim of the study, two research questions were set: "How does the foreign policy interference of Saudi Arabia and Iran affect Yemen?" and “What effect does the proxy war have on the situation in Yemen?” The evaluation was based on researching information mainly from foreign language secondary sources, scientific literature, and databases of international organizations. In conclusion, the analysis of the situation in Yemen suggests that this was a proxy war only in the case of Iran, which indirectly supports the Houthi movement through military equipment, training, and funding. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia provides support to the regime of President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi and is directly militarily involved in the conflict. The findings also imply that the humanitarian crisis existed in Yemen even before the war, however, it can be clearly seen from the comparison of the situation in Yemen before and after the war that the war deepened the humanitarian crisis much more. One of the reasons for that was, for example, the Saudi blockade of the Hudaydah port which receives humanitarian aid. Negotiations have been under way between Saudi Arabia and Iran since April 2021 which could potentially lead to an end to the war. The results are discussed in terms of international relations in conclusion part. |
