Integration of Muslim minorities in comparative perspective. Case of France and the Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with the integration of Muslim minorities in a comparative perspective, specifically in the case of France and the Czech Republic. The presented topic is very topical due to the migration waves from the Middle East and North Africa. Muslim society in Europe is also growing and solutions need to be found to integrate it into mainstream European society. This bachelor thesis deals with how integration can occur, what conditions both countries offer and what currently hinders it. France is a former colonial power and to this day it is a country with many minorities. Based on this fact, a research question was asked for this work, which reads: "Is the integration of Muslim minorities easier in France than in the Czech Republic, provided that French society and public institutions have more intensive experience with Muslims?" As the name implies, a comparative analysis was used to answer this question. The work is divided into three main parts - historical-empirical part, theoretical part and empirical-analytical part. However, the answer to the question is ambiguous. The research indicated interesting conclusions about the conditions offered by both countries. Although the French environment has a more suitable place for Muslims to live in some respects, the Czech Republic has enormous potential, and if it approaches the issue well, the integration of Muslim minorities could be even easier than in France. The aim of the work is, among other things, to prove that Muslims are not a minority that should raise concerns and the research, especially in the case of the Czech Republic, could serve as a source of methods and approaches to these minorities in the future to achieve their seamless integration.
