The importance of iron metallurgy for the Czechoslovak economy in the period of 1945-1965

| Abstract: | Diplomová práce „Význam hutnictví železa pro československé hospodářství v období 1945-1965“ se zabývá problematikou znárodnění a následného řízení průmyslového odvětví hutnictví železa. Cílem je zhodnotit, zda toto odvětví dokázalo plnit hodnoty produkce stanovené hospodářskými plány a zda bylo významnou součástí průmyslu. V práci je nejprve nastíněn proces a okolnosti znárodnění hutí a jejich stav ve 30. a 40. letech 20. století. Získané údaje jsou poté komparovány s výsledky dvouletého plánu a je zhodnocena jeho úspěšnost. Poté jsou analyzovány a hodnoceny jednotlivé hospodářské plány až do roku 1965 a je zhodnocena jejich úspěšnost. Na základě získaných informací je poté odpovězeno na hypotézu. Během výzkumu jsem došel k závěru, že hutnictví bylo významným průmyslovým odvětvím s rostoucím významem. Znárodnění mělo pro hutnictví železa pozitivní vliv zejména zpočátku sledovaného období, a ačkoliv se téměř pokaždé podařilo splnit kvóty produkce stanovené plánem, bylo znárodnění v pozdější části sledovaného období pro hutnictví spíše již škodlivé. |

| Abstract: | This diploma thesis "The importance of iron metallurgy for the Czechoslovak economy in the period of 1945-1965" deals with the issue of nationalization and subsequent management of the iron metallurgy industry. It’s aim is to assess whether the sector was able to meet the production quotas set by the economic plans and whether it was a significant part of the whole national industry. The thesis first outlines the process and circumstances of the nationalization of factories and their state in the 1930s and 1940s. The obtained data are then compared with the results of the first two-year plan and its success is evaluated. Then the individual economic plans up to 1965 are analyzed and evaluated based on the ability of metallurgy industry to meet the quotas set. Based on the information obtained, the hypothesis is then answered. During my research, I came to the conclusion that metallurgy was a major industry of growing importance. Nationalization had a positive effect on iron metallurgy mostly at the beginning of the period under review, and although the production quotas set by the plan were almost always met, nationalization in the later part of the period under review was rather harmful to metallurgy. |
