Comparison of freight costs and time demand of rail and road freight when transporting chosen commodities on the Baltic-Adriatic corridor

| Abstract: | Cílem diplomové práce je srovnat nákladovou a časovou náročnost přeprav vybraných komodit při využití železniční nákladní přepravy s využitím mezinárodní kamionové přepravy na Baltsko-jadranském koridoru. Vzhledem k místu působnosti vybraného železničního dopravce jsou v teoretické části nejprve popsány legislativní nároky k získání drážního oprávnění v České republice. Dále je vymezeno postavení železniční nákladní dopravy v Evropě zaměřené na popis rozdílných národních standardů uplatňovaných na železnici. Následně je charakterizován samotný Baltsko-jadranský koridor z pohledu technicko-technologických parametrů a ekonomických aspektů. Pozornost je také věnována postavení mezinárodní kamionové dopravy jako hlavního konkurenta na trhu nákladních přepravních služeb. Teoretickou část uzavírá kapitola o přepravě nadrozměrného a nebezpečného zboží silniční a železniční dopravou. V praktické části je představen nákladní železniční dopravce DB Cargo Czechia, s.r.o. Ve spolupráci s uvedenou firmou je proveden rozbor časové a nákladové náročnosti přeprav vybraných komodit, které jsou na železničním koridoru reálně přepravovány. Výsledky jsou porovnány s nabídkou přepravních služeb od vybraných kamionových dopravců doporučených od ČESMAD Bohemia, z.s. Na závěr práce je publikován přehled, ve kterém jsou srovnány přepravní náklady a časy rozčleněné podle komodit. Na základě výsledků srovnání jsou zapracována doporučení pro budoucí přepravy těchto komodit jmenovaným železničním dopravcem. |

| Abstract: | The aim of this Master thesis is to compare the cost and time demand of transport of chosen commodities with the use of rail and road freight transportation on the Baltic-Adriatic corridor. From the field of activity of the selected rail carrier in the theoretical part of the thesis there is described the legislative process of acquiring the rail authorization in the Czech Republic. The next part of the thesis then compares the individual rail systems in Europe with the focus on the description of the different national standards applied in the railway. Subsequently the selected Baltic-Adriatic corridor is described from the technological, technical and economic point of view. The road transportation, which is the main competitor of the railroad transportation, is described in the next part of the thesis. The last section of the theoretical part is focused on transportation of oversized and dangerous goods by rail and road transportation. In the subsequent practical part is introduced rail carrier DB Cargo Czechia, s.r.o. which provided a real data for the research. The practical part then, in co-operation with the mentioned company, focuses on selected commodities and their transportation cost and time demands. The acquired data are then compared to the quotations proposed by recommended Czech road transportation companies which were recommended by organization ČESMAD Bohemia, z.s. In the end of the thesis there is presented an overview in which are presented the cost and time demands of selected transportations classified according the type of commodity. Based on the research results there are then formulated recommendations for the future transportations of DB Cargo Czechia, s.r.o. |
