| Abstract: | Economic sanctions have been a topical issue for many years. Debates about them are still ongoing, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This thesis aims to analyse the EU and the US sanction mechanisms and identify differences in their geographical distribution. With the help of a comparative case study and a Qualitative Comparative Analysis, the thesis found that although actors are seen as one entity - the "West" due to specific systemic and cultural similarities, actors' approaches to economic sanctions vary considerably. The thesis defined these two approaches as ideological and rational, which then applied to the results of data analysis based on data sets from the European Data Portal and the website of the United States Department of the Treasury. |

| Abstract: | Ekonomické sankce jsou již mnoho let aktuálním tématem. Debaty o nich stále pokračují, zejména po ruské invazi na Ukrajinu. Cílem práce je zanalyzovat sankční mechanismy EU a USA a identifikovat rozdíly v jejich geografickém rozložení. S pomocí komparativní případové studie a kvalitativní komparativní analýzy vyplynula zjištění, že ačkoliv se na aktéry díky jistým systémovým a kulturním podobnostem nahlíží jako na jednu entitu - "západ", přístupy aktérů k ekonomickým sankcím se značně liší. Práce definovala tyto dva přístupy jako ideologický a racionální, které pak aplikovala na výsledky datové analýzy. Ta proběhla na základě datových souborů z Evropského datového portálu a z webových stránek Ministerstva financí Spojených států amerických. |
