Monitoring and testing of database structures of Business Intelligence systems

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou testování a monitorování systémů Business Intelligence a vznikla jako výsledek stáže ve společnosti Solitea. Jedná se o českou společnost, jejíž činnost zahrnuje také poskytování infrastruktury, platformy, aplikací a nástrojů pro řešení BI požadavků svých klientů. Hlavním cílem práce je vývoj a implementace nástroje pro automatizovanou kontrolu databázových struktur těchto BI řešení. Vývoj tohoto programu je také hlavním přínosem této práce. Práce je rozdělena do dvou logických celků. Nástroj je nejprve popsán z hlediska obchodní potřeby, kde je představen kontext, ve kterém byl vyvinut. Poté je představena technická dokumentace, způsob fungování programu a nakonec je nástroj probrán z uživatelského hlediska - jeho možnosti využití a omezení. V neposlední řadě práce poukazuje na nedostatky programu, možnosti jejich odstranění a výhled do budoucna z hlediska možnosti jeho rozšíření. Dílčím cílem práce je poskytnout teoretický rámec pro zařazení nástroje do kontextu BI a testování softwaru. Úvodní kapitoly práce jsou věnovány systémům pro správu databází, systémům Business Intelligence, jejich komponentám a tomu, v jaké podobě do nich databáze spadají. Třetí kapitola se věnuje testování softwaru, jeho nezbytnosti, automatizaci tohoto procesu a podrobněji se zaměřuje na možnosti automatizovaného testování řešení BI.

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of testing and monitoring of Business Intelligence systems and was written as a result of an internship in Solitea. It is a Czech company whose activity also includes providing infrastructure, platform, applications and tools for solving BI requirements of its clients. The main goal of the work is the development and implementation of a tool for automated control of database structures of these BI solutions. The development of this program also represents the main contribution of the thesis. The thesis is divided into two logical units. The tool is first described in terms of the business need, where the context in which it was developed is presented. Then the technical documentation, the way the program works and finally the tool is discussed from a user perspective - its possibilities of use and limitations. Finally, the thesis points out the shortcomings of the program, the possibilities of how to correct them and the future outlook in terms of the possibility of extending it. A partial aim of the thesis is to provide a theoretical framework for situating the tool in the context of BI and software testing. The introductory chapters of the thesis are devoted to, database management systems, Business Intelligence systems, its components and in what form databases fall into them. The third chapter is devoted to software testing, its necessity, automation of such a process and focuses in detail on the possibilities of automated testing of BI solutions
