French cultural diplomacy in Africa

This diploma thesis examines the French model of cultural diplomacy in Africa. The first part focuses on the conception of the issue from a purely theoretical perspective. The next part of the thesis examines France's current cultural policy on the continent. France has long-standing ties in Africa that stem primarily from its colonial history. It is for this reason that the thesis focuses primarily on these post-colonial countries. Of particular relevance to this paper is the policy of French President Emmanuel Macron, who has set ambitious goals for Africa. These goals have significant implications for cultural notions of foreign policy.
