Logical fallacies and their influence on the spread of disinformation on the internet

| Abstract: | Tato práce se zabývá dezinformacemi, jejich fungováním, účelem a cílem. Zvýšená pozornost je pak věnována argumentačním faulům a jejich roli v dezinformacích a dezinformování. V teoretické části se věnuje dopodrobna tématu argumentačních faulů. Vysvětluje, v čem spočívají, jak se dělí a jak v diskuzi fungují. Obohacuje některé již známe definice o nové poznatky a doplňující informace. Dále se věnuje konkrétně osobě dezinformátora Pavla Zítko, komerčního dezinformátora, kterému jeho podporovatelé posílají na transparentní účet peníze na podporu jeho činnosti. Mapuje jeho současný způsob fungování, který zasazuje do kontextu jeho minulosti a také do současnosti dezinformační scény jako celku. Sleduje a vyhodnocuje jeho užívání argumentačních faulů v rámci jeho dezinformačních aktivit na internetu a hledá korelaci mezi dezinformacemi a argumentačními fauly. Na závěr se zabývá samotnými oběťmi dezinformací, jejich chováním a vystupováním na sociálních sítích. V této části se snažíme kontaktovat tyto oběti dezinformací a konfrontovat je se zjištěními z naší analýzy Zítkova vystupování. Práce přináší obecný pohled na dezinformační scénu, dezinformátory a jejich podporovateli. Popisuje dynamiku vztahů mezi nimi a rozjímá nad důvody pro jejich činy a smýšlení. Přínosem této práce jsou tedy nové poznatky a doplňky definic argumentačních faulů. Dále komplexnější pohled na osobu dezinformátora Pavla Zítko. Potvrzení domnělé korelace mezi dezinformacemi a argumentačními fauly zároveň s konstatováním, že tato závislost není nutností, neboť ve většině případů nejsou fauly pro šíření lží a propagandy důležité či nepostradatelné. Jsou však účinnými podpůrnými prvky. Dalším přínosem je komplexní hodnocení stavu dezinformační scény ve vztahu k původu a účelu dezinformací, a zamyšlení nad motivací dezinformátorů. |

| Abstract: | This thesis deals with disinformation, its functioning, purpose and goal. Increased attention is then paid to logical fallacies and their role in disinformation. In the theoretical part, the topic of logical fallacies is discussed in detail. It explains what they consist of, how they are classified and how they function in debate. It enriches some already known definitions with new insights and additional information. It also looks specifically at the person of Pavel Zítko, a commercial disinformer whose supporters send money to his transparent account to fund his activities. It maps his current modus operandi, which it places in the context of his past and the present of the disinformation scene as a whole. It tracks and evaluates his use of logical fallacies in his online disinformation activities and looks for a correlation between disinformation and logical fallacies. Finally, it focuses on the victims of disinformation themselves, their behaviour and their social media presence. In this section, we attempt to contact these victims of disinformation and confront them with the findings from our analysis of Zítko's disinformation content. The thesis provides a general view of the disinformation scene, disinformers and their supporters. It describes the dynamics of the relationships between them and reflects on the reasons for their actions and mindset. Thus, the contribution of this work is new insights and additions to the definitions of logical fallacies. Furthermore, a more comprehensive view of the person of the disinformer Pavel Zítko. Confirmation of the presumed correlation between disinformation and logical fallacies, while concluding that this dependence is not a necessity, since in most cases fallacies are not important or indispensable for the spread of lies and propaganda. They are, however, effective supporting elements. Another contribution is a comprehensive assessment of the state of the disinformation scene in relation to the origin and purpose of disinformation, and a reflection on the motivations of disinformers. |
