Adaptation of new Ukrainian workers with higher education in the Czech Republic

This thesis deals with the adaptation of new Ukrainian workers who fled the war in Ukraine in 2022 and migrated to the Czech Republic. The main objective of this work is to map the problems faced by these Ukrainian workers with higher education in the process of adaptation to the Czech labor market through own research. The theoretical part of the thesis summarizes the knowledge that touches on the topic of migration, adaptation, labor market and the military conflict in Ukraine. This information is processed by the method of literary research and serves as a basis for the analytical part. After that, the thesis presents the results of its own research, which took place with the participation of Ukrainian refugees, their colleagues at work and HR managers. The research is carried out by the method of semi-structured interview, data analysis is carried out using the method of thematic analysis. The results of the research show that the main problem for the interviewed Ukrainian refugees is the language barrier. They are also hampered by a lack of time to study the language, uncertainty in career prospects and in life plans for the future. To support foreigners, the management implements certain activities: assigns mentors, offers language courses and psychological support. Their Czech colleagues have a positive attitude towards refugees, who are willing to help if necessary. In order to improve the adaptation process, recommendations for employers and for Ukrainian refugees are developed at the end of the work.
