The process and impacts of economic transformation in the Sedlčany region on the example of two engineering companies

This bachelor thesis deals with the transformation processes in the Czech Republic and their impact on the region of Sedlčany, specifically on the companies KDS Sedlčany cutlery cooperative and STROS – Sedlčanské strojírny. The chosen topic is interesting and still topical since transformation had profound influence on the future development of the Czech Republic, including the companies chosen for this thesis, which still operate on the market. According to the author’s existing knowledge, there has not yet been an analysis akin to this one made for worker cooperative, which could be considered its greatest benefit. The theoretical part summarizes information about transformation processes in the Czech Republic and focuses on privatization and its forms. The practical part is divided into three chapters and includes an introduction of the aforementioned companies and a description of how transformation occurred in relation to them. It also features an analysis of their economic development and a financial analysis in order to provide better data for confirming or refuting the hypothesis. Annual reports and other company documents serve as the sources for this part of the thesis. In the last part, there is a comparison made of the two companies as well as the engineering and the metalworking industry as a whole during the transformation years. The results will be added after research is done. The obtained data confirm the hypothesis that the transformation processes had a negative impact on the engineering and metalworking industry in the Sedlčany region.
