Evaluation of non-financial reporting in the energy sector in the Czech Republic

The thesis deals with non-financial reporting in the energy sector in the Czech Republic. It is gradually developing and gaining importance. It is gaining interest from stakeholders, academics and businesses themselves, who are beginning to see the benefits, whether it is increasing transparency, improving stakeholder relations or reputation. The paper aims to evaluate non-financial reporting, compare companies, identify major drawbacks and provide a comprehensive view of the quality of non-financial reporting in the industry. However, it should also provide suggestions for increasing transparency and the quality of reporting and indicate its possible future development. To do this, the thesis uses content analysis of annual reports and non-financial reports, as well as statistical tools and methods. It was found that the quality of reporting in the sector is generally low, there are significant differences between companies in the sector, but there was evidence of a reduction in these differences as well as an increase in the quality of reporting. At the same time, the relationship between the size of a company’s turnover and its quality of reporting has not been demonstrated. The situation requires legislative changes in the area of standardization, as well as increasing pressure from stakeholders and a growth of interest of companies themselves in monitoring and reporting non-financial indicators.
