THE IMPACT OF GOVERNMENT MEASURES ASSOCIATED WITH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN 2020-2021 ON THE SECTOR HOTEL INDUSTRY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

| Abstract: | Cílem této práce je vyhodnotit dopad vládních opatření spojených s pandemií Covid-19 v letech 2020-2021 na hotelnictví v ČR. Pro účely této práce byly zvoleny dvě oblasti. které budou pro vyhodnocení tohoto dopadu zkoumány. Jsou jimi hlavní město České republiky Praha a horská oblast na severovýchodu Čech Krkonoše. Sektor cestovního ruchu a ubytovací služby, byl v souvislosti s pandemií Covid-19 jedním z nejvíce zasažených sektorů ekonomiky. Navzdory tomu se v jednotlivých oblastech mohla významnost těchto dopadů lišit. V teoretické části je popsána obecná teorie sociální politiky a politiky zaměstnanosti. Dále jsou zde vymezeny pojmy podnikatele, malého a středního podnikání, zasazení cestovního ruchu a hotelnictví do národního hospodářství a teorie externalit v kontextu pandemie Covid-19. Praktická část se nejprve zabývá popisem pandemie Covid-19 a kompenzačními opatřeními vlády pro sektor ubytovacích služeb. První stanovenou metodou v praktické části je dotazníkové šetření. Z důvodu nízké míry návratnosti je zvolena další metoda komparativní analýza dat z veřejných zdrojů. Sledovanými ukazateli jsou počty návštěv, průměrná doba pobytu, kapacity hromadných ubytovacích zařízení, průměrné útraty turistů a zaměstnanost, které jsou následně porovnány s výsledky z dotazníkového šetření. Závěrem je provedeno shrnutí a následná komparace zjištěných dat zvolených oblastí a je potvrzena formální hypotéza: „Dopad pandemie na ubytovací zařízení v Krknoších byl menší než dopad na ubytovací zařízení v Praze.“ |

| Abstract: | The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the impact of government measures related to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-2021 on the hotel industry in the Czech Republic. For the purpose of this thesis, two areas have been chosen to be investigated to evaluate this impact. These are the capital city of the Czech Republic, Prague, and the mountainous region in the north-east of Bohemia, the Krkonoše Mountains. The tourism and accommodation services sector was one of the most affected sectors of the economy in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, the magnitude of these impacts may have varied from region to region. The theoretical section describes the general theory of social and employment policy. It also defines the concepts of entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized enterprises, tourism and the hotel industry. The practical part first deals with the description of the Covid-19 pandemic and the government's compensatory measures for the accommodation services sector. The first method established in the practical part is a questionnaire survey. Due to the low return rate, another method chosen is comparative analysis of data from public sources. The indicators monitored are number of visits, average length of stay, capacity of mass accommodation facilities, average tourist spending and employment, which are then compared with the results from the questionnaire survey. Finally, a summary and subsequent comparison of the findings of the selected areas is made, and the formal hypothesis is confirmed: 'The impact of the pandemic on accommodation facilities in Krknoše was less than the impact on accommodation facilities in Prague'. |
