European actors’ perspective on the CIA's Extraordinary Rendition Program

The diploma thesis deals with the perspective of European actors on the CIA's Extraordinary Rendition Program (ERP CIA). First, the historical development of the CIA Extraordinary Rendition Program is characterized, and individual terms are defined. The following is a list of international human rights treaties relevant to both the United States of America and European countries. The next part of the thesis deals with a summary of the participation of 13 selected European countries in the ERP CIA. Selected European countries are divided geographically. The most famous cases of their participation in the CIA's Extraordinary Rendition Program are presented, and the relevant government's reaction is noted. This part of the thesis concludes with the answer to research questions No. 1 and No. 2. The last chapter of the thesis deals with the reaction of selected European bodies (Council of Europe, European Parliament) to the CIA PMV. Individual documents of these bodies, regarding the CIA's Extraordinary Rendition Program and the participation of selected European states, are presented. The last chapter of the thesis serves as an answer to research question No. 3. The main goal of the thesis is to examine the perspective of 13 selected European states on the CIA’s Extraordinary Rendition Program. A partial goal is to examine the perspective of European authorities on the ERP CIA. Both goals can be considered fulfilled.
