Acceptance of the possibility to pay with cryptocurrencies by people in the Czech Republic

| Abstract: | Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na téma kryptoměn a jejich možné použití jako alternativní platební metody. Teoretická část se věnuje historii a vývoji peněz, finančnímu systému, technologii blockchain, kryptografii a popisu kryptoměn a jejich peněženek. Praktická část práce zahrnovala kvantitativní a kvalitativní výzkumy, které měly za cíl zjistit ochotu respondentů přejít k používání kryptoměn a získat informace o vztahu respondentů k této alternativní platební metodě. Výsledky ukázaly, že zatímco mnoho respondentů má o kryptoměnách znalosti, převážná většina z nich je nevyužívá v praxi. Nedostatek povědomí o tom, jak používat kryptoměny, a obavy z nebezpečí jsou hlavními faktory bránícími většímu rozšíření kryptoměn v České republice. Kromě toho byla zjištěna koncentrace obchodů a bankomatů v České republice, s nejvyšší koncentrací v Praze. Z e-shopů s nejvyššími tržbami v České republice bylo zjištěno, že pouze e-shop Alza.cz nabízí možnost platby kryptoměnou a umožňuje platit Bitcoinem a Litecoinem, ale plánuje nabízet i další kryptoměny. Praktická část práce obsahuje i testování procesu nákupu a platby kryptoměnou na e-shopu Alza.cz a porovnání kurzu Bitcoinu nabízeného e-shopem s kurzem na burze. Celkově lze shrnout, že kryptoměny mají potenciál stát se v budoucnu běžnou platební metodou, ale pro dosažení tohoto cíle je třeba řešit některé problémy, jako je nedostatek povědomí a nedostatek bezpečnosti. |

| Abstract: | The thesis focuses on the topic of cryptocurrencies and their possible use as an alternative payment method. The theoretical part covers the history and evolution of money, the financial system, blockchain technology, cryptography, and the description of cryptocurrencies and their wallets. The practical part of the thesis included quantitative and qualitative research aimed at determining respondents' willingness to switch to using cryptocurrencies and obtaining information about their attitudes toward this alternative payment method. The results showed that while many respondents have knowledge about cryptocurrencies, most of them do not use them in practice. Lack of awareness of how to use cryptocurrencies and concerns about risks are the main factors hindering greater adoption of cryptocurrencies in the Czech Republic. In addition, a concentration of businesses and ATMs was found in the Czech Republic, with the highest concentration in Prague. From the e-shops with the highest revenues in the Czech Republic, only the e-shop Alza.cz was found to offer the option of paying with cryptocurrencies and accepts Bitcoin and Litecoin, but plans to offer more cryptocurrencies in the future. The practical part of the thesis also includes testing the process of purchasing and paying with cryptocurrency in the e-shop Alza.cz and comparing the exchange rate of Bitcoin offered by the e-shop with the exchange rate on the stock exchange. In summary, cryptocurrencies have the potential to become a common payment method in the future, but solving some problems, such as lack of awareness and security concerns, is necessary to achieve this goal. |
