Energy dependency of the Czech Republic on oil and gas imports from Russia in 2012-2022

| Abstract: | Hlavním cílem této práce je zhodnocení dovozní závislosti České republiky (ČR) na ropě a zemním plynu z Ruska v letech 2012-2021. Práce také usiluje o zhodnocení stavu spotřeby ropy a zemního plynu v ČR v uvedených letech a v neposlední řadě nabízí pohled na stav importu ropy a zemního plynu z Ruska v roce 2022. Teoretická část práce nastiňuje prostřednictvím metody literární rešerše některé teoretické koncepty, které se k energetické závislosti a bezpečnosti na úrovni států či mezinárodních organizací pojí. Praktická část práce se věnuje analýze dat Eurostatu a vlastním výpočtům. Některé indikátory, které byly využity v této práci, byly zpracovány Evropskou komisí pro účely zprávy Member State’s Energy Dependence: An indicator-Based Assessment a v této práci byly aplikovány na nová data, tj. na zkoumané období pro případ ČR. Mezi ně patří ukazatelé koncentrace a dovozní závislosti. Výzkum v této práci naznačil postupný mírný odklon ČR od dovozu ropy a zemního plynu z Ruska v letech 2012-2021, ačkoliv celková dovozní závislost ČR ve zkoumaných letech vykazovala rostoucí tendenci. Rok 2022, který byl analyzován na základě předběžných měsíčních dat Českého statistického úřadu (ČSÚ), přinesl naopak výraznější odklon od ruských dodávek, jelikož souvisel s ruskou invazí na Ukrajinu. Součástí praktické části práce jsou i některé dopady a alternativní řešení výpadku dodávek ropy a zemního plynu z Ruska. |

| Abstract: | The main aim of this thesis is to evaluate the import dependence of the Czech Republic (CR) on oil and natural gas from Russia in the period 2012-2021.The thesis also seeks to assess the state of oil and natural gas consumption in the Czech Republic in these years and finally offers a view on the state of oil and natural gas imports from Russia in 2022. The theoretical part of the thesis outlines the theoretical concepts related to energy dependence and security at the level of states or international organizations. The practical part of the thesis is presented the analysis of Eurostat data and own calculations. Some of the indicators used in this thesis were developed by the European Commission for the purpose of the Member State's Energy Dependence report: An Indicator-Based Assessment and in this thesis, they have been applied to new data, i.e., for the examined period for the case of the Czech Republic. These include concentration and import dependence indicators. The research in this thesis indicated a gradual slight shift of the Czech Republic away from oil and gas imports from Russia in the period 2012-2021, although the overall import dependence of the Czech Republic showed an increasing trend in the years studied. In contrast, the year 2022, which was analysed based on preliminary monthly data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO), brought a more significant shift away from Russian supplies, as it was related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The practical part of the thesis also includes some impacts and alternative solutions to the shortfall of oil and gas supplies from Russia. |
