Czechoslovak-British economic relations in 1985-1993

The subject of the bachelor's thesis is the development of Czechoslovak-British economic relations between 1985 and 1993. The author analyses the evolution of mutual economic ties between Czechoslovakia and the United Kingdom during this period at economic, political, and foreign trade levels. The thesis also presents the economic realities in both countries and situates the research within the relevant historical context of global events in the 20th century. Concurrently, the thesis examines the economic (and political) direction of Thatcherism, which became a British phenomenon in the 1980s after the election of Margaret Thatcher, the first woman in history to serve as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The main goal of the bachelor's thesis is to compare the volume of mutual foreign trade before 1989, when Czechoslovakia was part of the Soviet Union's sphere of influence, with the situation after 1989, when Czechoslovakia was in the early stages of transitioning its economy from central planning to a market economy and a democratic political system. The analysis results showed, that after opening the Czechoslovak economy to Western countries, there was a significant increase in the volume of foreign trade with the United Kingdom.
