Analysis of the development of unemployment in the Ústí Region in the years 2008–2022

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the analysis of the development of unemployment in the Ústí Region, where long-term unemployment is higher than in the rest of the Czech Republic, between the years 2008–2022 according to various criteria. The obtained data are subsequently compared with the Pardubice region, where, on the other hand, unemployment is lower than the average of the Czech Republic in the long term, and also with the average of the Czech Republic itself. The theoretical part focuses on defining terms related to the labor market and unemployment. It also characterizes the researched areas and ongoing employment policy programs in the Ústí Region and the Czech Republic. In the practical part, the thesis analyzes and compares unemployment according to the number and structure of job seekers, unemployment rate indicators and the number of job vacancies. The thesis also includes a section that deals with the effect of the opening of the borders with Germany on unemployment in the Ústí Region. The influence question could not be answered. Further, in the practical part, the three events that most affected the level of unemployment are characterized, namely the financial crisis in 2008, the economic boom and the crisis due to the pandemic towards the end of the period. Thanks to the information obtained from the entire work, the conclusion provides recommendations to reduce unemployment, focusing on applicants with lower education, the long-term unemployed and increasing the number of jobs.
