| Abstract: | Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem mezi ekonomickou nerovností a kriminalitou. Cílem je prozkoumat působení tohoto vztahu a ověřit, zda vyšší nerovnost přispívá k růstu kriminality. Teoretická část buduje argumenty na základě ekonomie kriminality Garyho Beckera. K tomuto dílu jsou přidány některé další poznatky a teorie, aby bylo možné popsat věrohodně vztah nerovnosti a kriminality v ekonomii. K prokázání předpokladů jsou využita panelová data s údaji pro 107 zemí v letech 1999-2019. S využitím metody fixních efektů a zobecněné metody momentů je prokázán pozitivní vztah mezi nerovností a kriminalitou, který je v modelu vyjádřen proměnnými Giniho indexu a míry vražd. Pro odhad metodou FE je vztah významný na hladině 95 % a pro odhad metodou GMM na hladině 99,9 %. Dále je sestaven model pro několik regionů, kde je zkoumán vztah obou proměnných. Výsledky dokazují, že ačkoliv je v celém datovém souboru vliv nerovnosti na kriminalitu významný, v rámci regionů se její dopad může výrazně lišit. Práce proto upozorňuje na důležitost regionální heterogenity, kterou je nezbytné při výzkumu reflektovat. Hlavním přínosem této práce je prokázání vztahu na velkém vzorku zemí a aplikace modelu na různé regiony, které jsou následně komparovány. Práce dokazuje nutnost vnímat při výzkumu problematiky na mezinárodní úrovni rozdíly a zvláštnosti jednotlivých regionů, které mohou vyžadovat kontrolu pomocí specifických proměnných. Závěry této práce mohou přispět k budoucímu výzkumu problematiky a zaměření pozornosti nejen na obecnou platnost vztahu, ale i na jeho sílu a působení v různých podmínkách a prostředích. |

| Abstract: | The diploma thesis examines the relationship between economic inequality and crime and aims to determine whether higher inequality contributes to an increase in crime levels. The theoretical part of the paper draws on the work of Gary Becker and augments it with additional theories and findings to provide a plausible explanation of the relationship between inequality and crime in economics. Panel data with values for 107 countries from 1999 2019 are used to test the assumptions. The thesis employs fixed effects and generalized method of m oments and establishes a positive relationship between inequality and crime, as expressed by the Gini index and homicide rate variables. The For FE estimation, the relationship is significant at the 95% level and for GMM estimation at the 99.9% level. stud y builds a model for several regions to examine the relationship between the two variables, revealing that although the effect of inequality on crime is ance of significant, its impact can vary substantially across regions. Thus, the thesis emphasizes the signific regional countries and heterogeneity and its reflection in research. The primary contribution of this work is the demonstration of the relationship on a large sample of the compared.
