Analysis of motivating factors of the post-revolutionary generation in relation to decision-making in work and life issues

The depopulation of regions is a long-term trend in the Czech Republic and has negative impacts on the development of these areas. Currently, this phenomenon can positively or negatively affect the post-revolutionary generations, so it is important to understand their motivating factors and find ways to attract individuals back to their native regions. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the motivating factors of the post-revolutionary generation in terms of work and life and to identify the main issues related to these factors. The theoretical part defines and describes the concepts of motivation, decision-making, generation, migration, population migration and regional development. For the practical part, a combination of qualitative and complementary quantitative research was chosen. Both researches were focused on master students of the University of Economics in Prague who come from regions outside Prague and decided to study at university in Prague. The quantitative research was conducted through an online questionnaire and the qualitative research was conducted through semi-structured in-depth interviews. The research findings provide an overview of the key motivating factors of the post-revolution generation and the main life issues that the generation is dealing with. This thesis can serve as background material for employers and local governments to address the issue of regional depopulation more effectively.
