NGO communication on women's rights - a case study Afghanistan

The bachelor's thesis deals with NGO communication in the field of women's rights in Afghanistan. The situation in Afghanistan has reached an almost uncontrollable state after the Taliban took power and there are repeated human and women's rights violations in the country. For the purpose of this paper, the NGOs selected for comparison were Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, as they are among the largest and most influential international NGOs in the world. The aim of the thesis was to find out how the selected organisations, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, work in the area of framing and presenting women's rights issues to the public. Content analysis of the text is used in the bachelor thesis. This involves the analysis of selected documents in Voyant tools and Seoscout, where for example the total number of words, the most occurring words or the emotional sentiment of sentences were compared. The analysis revealed that both organisations make extensive use of negatively coloured sentences in their research and campaigns to evoke different emotions in the reader. In word count, the word 'woman' was the most frequent and the analysis of the campaigns showed that the organisations very often replace some adjectives with more emotionally tinged synonyms, thus also confirming the use of framing.
