| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce se zabývá vztahem mezi ekonomickou nerovností, ekonomickou svobodou a sportovní výkonností zemí. Cílem je prozkoumání těchto vztahů a ověření hypotézy, že vyšší ekonomická svoboda a nižší ekonomická nerovnost přispívá k vyššímu medailovému zisku zemí na zimních olympijských hrách. Práce je inspirována dosavadními studiemi, které zkoumaly vliv ekonomické svobody a ekonomické nerovnosti na sportovní úspěšnost států na letních olympijských hrách. Její přínos spočívá v rozšíření tohoto zkoumání na zimní olympijské hry. K prokázání hypotézy jsou využita průřezová data ze 30 zemí, kdy zisky ze čtyř ZOH (v letech 2010 až 2022) jsou agregovány a pro nezávislé proměnné jsou použita data ze středu sledovaného období. Byly sestaveny celkem tři modely. Výsledky ukazovaly na to, že na úspěšnost zemí na ZOH mají významnější vliv jiné faktory než míra ekonomické nerovnosti a ekonomické svobody. Poslední model prokázal, že v případě zemí s fungujícími institucemi je vliv ekonomické nerovnosti statisticky nevýznamný. Výpovědní hodnota toho modelu byla ale limitovaná. |

| Abstract: | The bachelor thesis examines the relationship between economic inequality, economic freedom, and international sporting success of countries. The research is carried out to test the hypothesis that higher economic freedom and lower economic inequality contributes to higher number of medals won by countries at the Winter Olympics. The thesis is inspired by several previous studies, which examined the effect of economic freedom and economic inequality on sporting success of countries at the Summer Olympics. The findings of the paper may contribute by broadening the data by testing the Winter Olympics. Cross-sectional data which aggregated medial gains (from 2010–2022 period) for 30 countries and values of independent variables with reference to the middle of the period under review are used to test the hypothesis. A total of three models were created. The results showed that other factors than the level of economic inequality and economic freedom have more significant impact on the success of countries at the Winter Olympics. The third model has proved that in the case of countries which functioning institutions, the effect of economic inequality is statistically insignificant. However, the informative value of the model was limited. |
