Relationship of coping mechanisms and work environment with well-being and manifestations of burnout syndrome in managers 35+

This dissertation examines the relationship between selected areas of the work environment and coping mechanisms in relation to burnout syndrome and well-being in middle-aged managers. The study aims to offer a deeper understanding of these interactions. The theoretical section provides an overview of current theories and empirical studies focusing on these research variables with an emphasis on the perspective of middle-aged managers. Data from 100 Czech managers aged 35 years and older were collected using five standardized questionnaires. Analytical methods such as correlation, regression, and SEM were used. The findings show that while cognitive coping resources and adaptive coping strategies are inversely related to burnout syndrome, maladaptive strategies exacerbate it. Moreover, seeking social support and using coping resources enhance well-being. Positive elements in the workplace such as a manageable workload, supportive community, fairness, and shared values predict a reduction in the likelihood of developing burnout and increase well-being. In addition, emotional, social, and cognitive coping resources play a moderating role in the relationship between the work environment and both burnout and well-being. The discussion elaborates on these results and results in practical guidelines for organizations and managers.
