Do Czechs pay more for Ikea IKEA furniture than citizens of neighbouring countries?

| Abstract: | Studie se zaměřuje na platnost zákona jedné ceny v případě nábytku IKEA v České republice a sousedních zemích. Pro stanovené cenové kategorie (0-55€, 55-100€, 100-200€, 200-330€ a 330+€) a 14 produktových kategorií zkoumá s celkovým pozorováním na 140 produktech, zda cenové rozdíly lze vysvětlit náklady na distribuci (náklady na prodej, náklady na dopravu, cla a ostatní tarify). Cenové rozdíly mezi zeměmi na základě průměrné cenové procentuální odchylky existují, kde nejdražší produkty jsou v Rakousku a následováno Českou republikou. Výsledky nepotvrdili, že by hlavním faktorem odchylky od zákona jedné ceny byly náklady na distribuci ale odhalují, že kategorie kuchyňských pracovních desek a lamp vykazují výraznější cenové odchylky než ostatní kategorie produktů, přičemž náklady na dopravu mají větší vliv než v jiných kategoriích. U komod a skříní je situace opačná, kde náklady na dopravu mají nižší vliv na cenové rozdíly způsobených v cenách, které jsou v rámci produktových kategorii nejmenší. Analýza cenových kategorií dále ukazuje, že čím vyšší je cena produktu, tím větší vliv mají náklady na dopravu, zatímco u nižších cenových kategorií mají tyto náklady mnohem nižší vliv. Nepodařilo se prokázat, že hlavním důvodem rozdílů v cenách jsou náklady na distribuci a poukazuje na to, že rozdíly v cenách jsou převážně důsledkem strategického stanovování cen, což ovlivňuje cenové diferenciace mezi různými produktovými a cenovými kategoriemi. |

| Abstract: | The study focuses on the validity of the law of one price for IKEA furniture in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries. For specified price categories (0-55€, 55-100€, 100-200€, 200-330€ and 330+€) and 14 product categories, it examines, with a total of 140 products observed, whether price differences can be explained by distribution costs (selling costs, transport costs, customs duties and other tariffs). Price differences between countries based on the average price percentage deviation exist, with Austria having the most expensive products, followed by the Czech Republic. The results do not confirm that distribution costs are the main driver of the deviation from the law of one price but reveal that the kitchen worktops and lamps categories show more significant price deviations than other product categories, with transport costs having a greater impact than in other categories. The situation is reversed for chests of drawers and cabinets, where transport costs have a smaller impact on the price differences caused by the product categories. The analysis of the price categories further shows that the higher the price of the product, the greater the impact of transport costs, while for the lower price categories these costs have a much lower impact. It fails to show that distribution costs are the main reason for the price differences and indicates that price differences are mainly due to strategic pricing, which affects price differentials between different product and price categories. |
