Application of the private health insurance system in the Czech Republic in 2012-2023

Healthcare, as an indispensable part of every social system, is constantly evolving and increasing its expenditures. Due to these growing expenses, several models of private and public financing have been introduced in developed countries and the question of which one is more beneficial and sustainable for a given country is essential, because it can significantly affect the economy of mentioned country and the quality of life in it. The Czech Republic has been using the system of public financing of healthcare for a long time, but its health sector is facing many significant problems, such as long-term underfunding of the system, insufficient control of the quality of services provided and others. Therefore, the thesis is devoted to the hypothesisthat a private financing model might be more beneficial. The thesis offers an analysis of Czech, German and American healthcare financing systems with a focus on their effectiveness within their economies, as well as placing their results in the context of other OECD countries. The analysis shows that the Czech healthcare system is effective in many aspects, but it should offer more opportunities for citizen participation, following the example of the German voluntary health insurance, which could contribute to motivating patients to take better care of their health, prioritize prevention and help fund areas of the healthcare system, which are currently underfunded. So, the hypothesis was rejected.
