International Jazz Festival Voicingers in Jablonec nad Nisou: a case study

| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce zkoumá druhý ročník mezinárodního hudebního festivalu Voicingers, který se v Jablonci nad Nisou uskutečnil v roce 2022. Festival, původem z Polska, je zaměřen na jazzovou improvizaci a experimentální přístup k hudební tvorbě. Jeho náplní jsou vzdělávací interaktivní workshopy spolu s večerními koncerty a jam sessions. S ohledem na tradici tohoto festivalu v České republice se s událostí pojí potenciál rozvoje v českém jazzovém prostředí a práce je proto zaměřena na kritické zhodnocení organizačních aspektů festivalu s detailnějším zaměřením na vzdělávací metody lektorů platformy Voicingers. Cílem je prozkoumat, zda je možné pomocí Business Model Canvas identifikovat nedostatky a odvodit možnosti rozvoje pro budoucí chod festivalu a analyzovat festivalovou aktivitu vzdělávacích workshopů. Práce je podpořena kvalitativním výzkumem, v rámci kterého byly pro účel práce poskytnuty informace od dvou aktérů platformy Voicingers prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Práce na základě výsledků výzkumu odhaluje hlavní problémy v organizaci české edice festivalu, zejména nesystematicky složený organizační tým nebo nedostatečnou propagaci a nabízí inovativní doporučení pro organizátory festivalu s účelem potencionálního rozvoje festivalu v českém jazzovém prostředí. |

| Abstract: | The bachelor thesis examines the second year of the international music festival Voicingers, which took place in Jablonec nad Nisou in 2022. The festival, originally from Poland, focuses on jazz improvisation and an experimental approach to music making. It features educational interactive workshops along with evening concerts and jam sessions. Considering the tradition of this festival in the Czech Republic, the event has the potential to be developed in the Czech jazz environment and the thesis is therefore focused on a critical evaluation of the organisational aspects of the festival with a more detailed focus on the educational methods of the Voicingers platform lecturers. The aim is to investigate whether it is possible to use the Business Model Canvas to identify shortcomings and derive development opportunities for the future operation of the festival and to analyse the festival activity of educational workshops. The thesis is supported by qualitative research in which the author was provided with information from two respondents from the Voicingers platform through semi-structured interviews. Based on the findings of the research, the thesis reveals the main problems in the organisation of the Czech edition of the festival, in particular the unsystematic composition of the organisational team or the lack of promotion, and offers innovative recommendations for festival organisers with the potential for future festival development in the Czech jazz environment. |
