Analysis of the Tourism Sector Development in the Czech Republic During 2003-2022 with Emphasis on the Coronavirus Pandemic

| Abstract: | Pandemie koronaviru ovlivnila mnoho oblastí ekonomiky, avšak cestovní ruch patří mezi odvětví, která byla zasažena nejcitelněji. Stabilita odvětví byla během krize narušena a výzvy, kterým bylo potřeba čelit vyžadují hlubší porozumění pro následné poučení v oblasti vládního rozhodování pro krize následující. Cílem bakalářské práce je posoudit stav odvětví cestovního ruchu v České republice na základě dat čerpaných především ze satelitního účtu cestovního ruchu a zasadit roli odvětví v České republice do kontextu zemí Evropské unie. Dále provést komplexní analýzu dopadů pandemie koronaviru na odvětví cestovního ruchu. Práce také bere v potaz provedená vládní opatření nebo vydané strategické dokumenty, které rozvoj odvětví ovlivňují. Použitá metoda práce je analýza získaných dat a jejich komparace v období před pandemií a během ní. Z analýzy vyplývá, že se během pandemie změnila struktura spotřeby cestovního ruchu v České republice ve prospěch rezidentů oproti spotřebě nerezidentů, ačkoli v období před pandemií spotřeba nerezidentů převládala. Během pandemie se změnila také struktura intenzity cestovního ruchu v krajích – Praha měla největší propad v rámci všech krajů. Dále práce nastiňuje, kterým rizikům musí odvětví čelit jako je problematika zaměstnanosti (převážně klesající nebo stagnující vývoj podílu zaměstnaných osob v cestovním ruchu na celkové zaměstnanosti, nedostatek zkrácených úvazků pro efektivní flexibilitu pracovního trhu cestovního ruchu, nerovnoměrné rozdělení mužů a žen v zaměstnáních služeb cestovního ruchu), problematika sezonnosti nebo problematika dlouhodobého vývoje např. s ohledem na životní prostředí. |

| Abstract: | The coronavirus pandemic has affected many areas of the economy, but tourism is one of the sectors that has been most severely affected. The stability of the sector was disrupted during the crisis and the challenges faced require a deeper understanding to inform government decision-making for subsequent crises. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to assess the state of the tourism industry in the Czech Republic based on data drawn primarily from the Tourism Satellite Account and to place the role of the industry in the Czech Republic in the context of the European Union countries. Furthermore, to make a comprehensive analysis of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the tourism sector. The thesis also takes into account the government measures implemented or strategic documents issued that affect the development of the sector. The method used in the thesis is the analysis of the data obtained and their comparison in the period before and during the pandemic. The analysis shows that during the pandemic the structure of tourism consumption in the country changed in favour of residents compared to non-residents, although in the period before the pandemic non-resident consumption prevailed. The structure of tourism intensity in the regions also changed during the pandemic, with Prague having the largest decline of all regions. Furthermore, the paper outlines the risks the sector faces such as employment issues (mostly declining or stagnant trends in the share of employed persons in tourism in total employment, lack of part-time jobs for effective flexibility in the tourism labour market, unequal distribution of men and women in tourism service jobs), seasonality issues or long-term development issues, e.g. with regard to the environment. |
