Adaptation process of an employee during relocation in the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis is focused on the process of adaptation of expats in the Czech Republic and the problems that expats will encounter during adaptation. To achieve the research objectives, I chose the method of in-depth interviews, which helped me to uncover and comprehensively understand the problems expats faced and what were causes of these issues. The thesis addressed three main research questions and eight secondary research questions. In the first research question, I asked about the most difficult obstacles related to cultural differences for expats in the Czech Republic, and the result of the research was that the three biggest problems are the unfriendly attitude of the Czechs, the language barrier and bad customer service. From the second research question, I was trying to understand the basis for their decision on what indicators expats use to measure the success of their stay, it became clear that in most cases expats evaluate their stay based on the acquisition of new work competencies, and the personal dimension is often neglected when evaluating their stay abroad. The third research question was about how being abroad affected their personal/family life. The research showed that the stay in the Czech Republic did not have a negative impact on their personal life, on the contrary, their family situation often improved, probably more than if they had not spent time abroad.
