Business Intelligence application in obstetrics

This thesis is focused on using Business Intelligence to improve the state of resources for choosing a maternity hospital in Prague. Existing sources of information in this field provide pregnant women with information that is either too blunt, too detailed and overwhelming, or it is subjective, unstructured information from questionable sources. The primary objective of this thesis is therefore to create a report that will add to the existing sources one that combines their advantages by using data on the satisfaction of mothers with maternity hospitals from the non-profit company Aperio and official statistical data on births and maternity hospitals. The first part is dedicated to research of literary and data sources. In this part, literary sources are utilised to describe the current state of obstetrics in Czechia and the use of Business Intelligence in the healthcare sector. Other literary sources used in the rest of the thesis as a theoretical basis for creating the final report are described in the second part. The third part of the thesis deals with the issue of choosing a maternity hospital in Prague, defines the user group of the final report and describes methodology, analysis and results of the information needs questionnaire. The fourth part describes the analysis and preparation of data sources for data visualization. Building on those steps, layout of the report and individual visualizations are designed in the fifth part. The sixth part is devoted to the creation of the visualizations designed in part five, their arrangement in the designed structure and creating a suitable user interface. The last part of the thesis is focused on the finalization of the report, which includes user testing, incorporation of the user testing outcomes, describes the process of making the resulting report available to users, and concludes the thesis with a description of the results and recommendations.
