| Abstract: |
China, as an emerging power, faces pressure to take on more responsibility for global climate change. Its leadership has adapted to this, recognizing the importance of addressing climate impacts. Worldwide emissions reduction has become a global goal. This thesis examines whether China's investments in renewable energy in Europe and its proactive environmental policies contribute to its soft power strategy. The research investigates China's environmental diplomacy with the EU using Joseph Nye's concept of soft power. It analyzes soft power resources, and Chinese investments in eco-friendly projects like the BRI, and evaluates official statements and discourse since 2004, including climate negotiations from 2009 to 2018. This approach combines primary and secondary sources for a comprehensive perspective. Through qualitative case study analysis, it finds that China is leveraging soft power to build a positive national image as a climate change leader, actively engaging in climate negotiations and environmental diplomacy through soft power instruments such as signaling and strategic narratives. |

| Abstract: |
Čína jako rozvíjející se mocnost čelí tlaku, aby převzala větší odpovědnost za globální změnu klimatu. Její vedení se tomu přizpůsobilo a uvědomuje si důležitost řešení dopadů na klima. Celosvětové snížení emisí se stalo globálním cílem. Tato práce analyzuje, zda čínské investice do obnovitelných zdrojů energie v Evropě a její proaktivní environmentální politika přispívají k její strategii soft power. Výzkum zkoumá environmentální diplomacii Číny s EU s využitím konceptu soft power Josepha Nye. Analyzuje zdroje soft power a čínské investice do ekologických projektů, jako je iniciativa BRI, a hodnotí oficiální prohlášení a diskurz od roku 2004, včetně klimatických jednání v letech 2009 až 2018. Tento přístup kombinuje primární a sekundární zdroje pro získání komplexního pohledu. Prostřednictvím kvalitativní analýzy případové studie se zjišťuje, že Čína využívá soft power k budování pozitivní národní image lídra v oblasti změny klimatu a aktivně se zapojuje do jednání o klimatu a environmentální diplomacie prostřednictvím nástrojů soft power, jako je signalizace a strategický narativ. |
