Instruments of International Intergovernmental Organizations in the Fight against Modern Slavery: a Case Study of South Sudan

Modern slavery is a problem in which millions of people are trapped even today. Although it is an illegal act and a great violation of human rights, it continues to occur in many countries. International intergovernmental organizations are combating this phenomenon. They use various instruments to fight against modern slavery, such as conventions and international missions, but first of all, they provide humanitarian aid. This study aims to deepen the understanding of what tools international intergovernmental organizations, specifically UNICEF, use to combat modern slavery. The intent is to identify these tools and determine which positive changes they are bringing about, and which tools appear to be ineffective. I choose UNICEF because it is a main actor in human rights. The issue of modern slavery will be examined using the case study of South Sudan. It has become the most vulnerable African country in this issue. UNICEF's tools appear to be contributing to tackling some of the causes that lead to modern slavery, but it is not clear that they are sustainable in the long term.
