The influence of colonialism on the social policy of France

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to evaluate how the colonial past shapes France's social policy and whether its current consequences in the form of migration are a fiscal burden for France. In the first two chapters, I focused on the theoretical framework of colonialism and social policy. I devoted the following two parts of the thesis to the research side, where I evaluated the impact of long-term migration on the social system of the country using the national composition of the population, the unemployment rate, the average income of employees, state income and expenditure on social policy or even crime. Research has shown that the least contributing group of immigrants are female immigrants from the Maghreb, who make up a large part of France's total immigrant population. On the contrary, we find almost no difference in the labor market between male immigrants and people without a direct migration background. According to statistics, immigrants contribute even more to the general social security system than the expenditure on their social protection and cover gaps in the labor market that are not filled by ordinary French citizens.
