The Current Migration Crisis as a Test of the Cohesion of the Visegrad Group

This thesis discusses the topic of sub-regional cooperation in Europe. It examines the specific case of the Visegrad Group. The author discusses the coherence of the grouping. He demonstrates the influence of external factors on a given sub-region of the European Union with the case of the current migration crisis of Ukrainian refugees. In doing so, he refers to the 2015 migration crisis and wonders whether the current situation has a similar effect on the grouping in terms of its coherence. The author argues that the issue of migration is no longer strong enough to support the internal unity of this integration. He identifies the cause of the decline in the mutual relations between the countries, which is the reason for the current disintegration tendencies. That is the ongoing war in Ukraine, which has triggered the refugee crisis. The Russian-Ukrainian war conflict confirms the split in the interests of the individual countries of the Visegrad Group. National governments cannot define common positions on the Russian Federation, sanctions, and independence from Russian energy resources. Thus, the countries continue to distance themselves from each other. The future of the Visegrad Group remains unclear.
