Logistics of transporting general aviation aircraft from the United States of America to the European Union

This bachelor thesis delves into the logistics of transporting general aviation aircraft from the United States to the European Union, with a focus on understanding the motivations, economic considerations, and environmental impacts involved in this process. The research aims to offer comprehensive insights into the importation process, including associated costs and environmental factors. In doing so, it provides an in-depth analysis of the general aviation market in both the United States and the European Union, examining viable transport methods and regulatory frameworks governing importation. It also evaluates environmental implications stemming from transatlantic transport. A case study is presented featuring a fictional ferry flight of a Cessna 182T Skylane, offering a detailed assessment of crucial aspects such as costs and duration. Additionally, qualitative research in the form of guided interviews with commercial pilots and quantitative research in the form of a questionnaire with flight schools contribute to a nuanced understanding of the transatlantic transport. Through a synthesis of theoretical insights and practical findings, the thesis identifies optimal transport methods under specific conditions and evaluates the financial costs associated with the importation process.
