Multiple sclerosis in data in the Czech Republic

The subject of study in this thesis is a small section of health policy in relation to the disease of multiple sclerosis. The topic is current, but not very frequented not very frequently debated. The objekctive of the thesis is to map the demographic perspective of multiple sclerosis, to obtain the largest possible volume of data and to analyze the data in an appropriate way. This thesis aims, to evaluate whether the data are available, in sufficient quantity, structure and compatibility, all based on the obtained results. The secondary objective is to improve public awareness of this incurable disease. The paper uses available data from the Czech Statistical Office, Institute of Health Information and Statistics, General Health Insurance Company, ReMuS registry and the most up-to-date output from the questionnaire. The focus is on demographic, employment and social benefits data. The data are evaluated using descriptive statistics and time series analysis methods. The most extensive scope for analysis was provided by the data from the General Health Insurance Fund for its insured persons with multiple sclerosis, of whom it records 78 % of the estimated total diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the Czech Republic (year 2022). The conclusion of the thesis states that data on multiple sclerosis are limited and hardly compatible. Data from the General Health Insurance Company show that the number of patients with multiple sclerosis in the Czech Republic is growing linearly, as are the costs of their treatment. There are twice as many women with multiple sclerosis as men. Modal interval of men and women with multiple sclerosis is 45–49 years in 2022. The processing of the questionnaire showed that there is a lack of part-time positions on the labour market. Employers who are informed, that their employee has multiple sclerosis, are in most cases willing to adjus their working hours and working conditions.
