Design and Implementation of Standardized Reports on an OLAP Database in Power BI

The objective of this thesis is to implement a reporting layer over the OLAP database of Inekon Systems s.r.o. for a selected area. The work includes the development of a toolkit for Power BI, which helps standardize the design of dashboards. This toolkit comprises a set of guidelines, basic visualizations, and templates. It is utilized to create two specific dashboards for displaying overviews of sales performance and cash flow. The introduction of the thesis sets the context, goals, and assumptions of the project, followed by a review of scholarly works related to the creation and design of dashboards. The theoretical part addresses basic concepts such as Business Intelligence, OLAP, and Power BI. In the chapter called Business Assignment and Context of the Solution, Inekon Systems is introduced along with its software for analyzing business data and the specific requirements for the solution. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the formulation of guidelines and templates based on scholarly literature and best practices, the analysis of data used for designing the dashboards, and ultimately the design of the dashboards themselves. The chapter on obtaining feedback evaluates the developed toolkit and dashboards based on feedback from relevant company employees. The final part summarizes the achievement of goals, the contributions of the project, and proposes directions for future development.
