Design of an Enterprise information system implementation in a large manufacturing company

The thesis addresses the selection of an ERP system for a large manufacturing company whose requirements are highly complex due to the extensive processes they encompass, including sales, production, storage, repairs, service, and other critical areas. The scope of these areas narrowly specifies the feasible ERP systems for implementation. The first objective of this work was to create a design of functionalities suitable for the ERP system based on the analyzed requirements of the company. The second goal was to propose a winning ERP system variant in terms of functionality by evaluating the established criteria. During the course of the work, a complication arose that made it impossible to perform evaluations based on the created criteria, which led to a change in the second objective. The new second goal became the development of a methodology that would enable the company to evaluate the ERP system offers from suppliers so that the company could determine which variant is most suitable in terms of functionality and financial costs. The first goal remained unchanged. Initially, the author conducted an analysis of the company in the field of rail vehicles, and this analysis examined the company's processes in relation to information technology. This was followed by an analysis of requirements across various departments for a new ERP system. Subsequently, the author analyzed the market for ERP system variants suitable for evaluation, and created evaluation criteria. However, due to a complication, it was not possible to use these criteria because of a lack of underlying data for the evaluation. Therefore, the author replaced the original second goal with a new one and developed the mentioned methodology, which will serve the company as a procedure for selecting a suitable ERP system from both financial and functional perspectives.
