Rebuild of a Data Warehouse in the healthcare group

This thesis focuses on a partial rebuild of a data warehouse (DWH) in the healthcare group. Thus, the aim of the thesis is to perform this partial rebuild of the data warehouse according to a catalogue of requirements that limits the scope of the implementation part itself. The objective is fulfilled through the sub-objectives which are the analysis of the current state, the creation catalogue of a requirements to define the implementation part of this thesis and the implementation itself. The analysis of the current state is performed on a predefined domain and two methods are used for the evaluation. Capability Maturity Model (CMM) to evaluate the maturity level and Operational Risk Assessment to evaluate the impact on current operations. The chapter helps to understand the baseline state of BI in the company and identify areas for future improvement. This is followed by defining the architecture and setting new rules by which the solution is implemented. The requirements catalog includes defined tasks for development and their prioritization. The chapter also identifies Quick wins to support the Governance area, which has the worst rating of the analyzed areas. Then, the implementation of the requirements defined in the catalogue is carried out. First, the Quick wins are elaborated, which also have an impact on the processing of the other tasks. After processing the tasks that are related to the processing of the new fact tables, testing is performed to support the POC data quality solution. The last step is validation, which evaluates the deployed implementation and collects feedback from the operation. The decision to initiate the DWH rebuild was made by the company. The thesis successfully achieved the main objective and related sub-objectives. Furthermore, it had a positive impact on the implementation of the data warehouse rebuild project in the organization.
