The demographic and political context of contemporary European migration

This bachelor's thesis is a comprehensive analysis of migration trends and their impacts in the European Union between 2013 and 2022. The study emphasises the examination of the demographic and political factors that influence these trends and seeks to shed light on how migration affects the economic, socio-economic and political aspects of the countries involved. Based on a combination of quantitative data, qualitative labour research and existing literature, it identifies the key motivations and consequences of migration processes that shape current and future EU policies. The theoretical part first introduces the terminology and theoretical approaches to migration that served as the basis for the empirical part of the thesis. The analytical part uses statistical data from databases such as Eurostat to assess current migration patterns, while the qualitative segment relies on literature research and analysis of policy documents to interpret the factors influencing these patterns. The research reveals that migration flows are complexly influenced by a number of variables, including economic conditions and policies at national and international levels. The results of the paper point to the need for a dynamic approach to migration policy that takes into account not only current socio-economic factors but also long-term demographic trends. This work contributes to a better understanding of the dynamics of migration flows in the European Union and highlights the importance of a proactive approach to migration and integration strategies that should be sensitive to the continuously changing economic and political environment. Finally, the thesis can serve as a basis for further and more comprehensive research on migration and its trends in the European Union.
