Comparison of the standard of living of the South Bohemia and West Bohemia regions in the years 1970s and 1980s

| Abstract: | Bakalářská práce se zabývá komparací životní úrovně obyvatelstva Jihočeského a Západočeského kraje v 70. a 80. letech 20. století. Cílem práce je ověřit hypotézu, že v Jihočeském kraji byla nižší životní úroveň obyvatelstva než v Západočeském kraji, a to jak z pohledu výše průměrné mzdy, celkových příjmů a výdajů domácností, dostupnosti zdravotnictví, jeslí a školství, tak i z pohledu kulturního vyžití a vybaveností domácností spotřebiči. Teoretická část se zabývá především historickým, ekonomickým a sociálním kontextem zkoumaného období. Praktická část nejprve představuje základní sociálně-ekonomické charakteristiky obou krajů. Dále zahrnuje analýzu jednotlivých krajů, a to dle následujících kritérií: výše průměrné mzdy, výše celkových příjmů a výdajů a jejich struktuře, dostupnosti zdravotnictví, dostupnosti jeslí, dostupnosti školství, dostupnosti kulturního vyžití a úrovni vybavenosti domácími spotřebiči. Následná komparace obou regionů dochází k závěru, že hypotézu lze verifikovat pouze částečně. Celkové příjmy obyvatel Jihočeského kraje byly výrazně nižší než v Západočeském kraji, což se odráželo i ve výdajích. Zároveň obyvatelé Jihočeského kraje investovali více peněz do zboží, kvůli menší dostupnosti služeb v kraji. Dále v kraji byla méně dostupná zdravotní péče, a to jak z pohledu počtu obyvatel na jednu nemocnici, tak i počtu na jednoho lékaře. |

| Abstract: | The bachelor thesis is focused on a comparison of the living standards of the population of the South Bohemia and West Bohemia regions in the 1970s and 1980s. The aim of the thesis is to verify the hypothesis says South Bohemian Region reported a lower standard of living compare to the West Bohemian Region, both in terms of the average wage, total household income and expenditure, access to health care, day nurseries and education, and in terms of cultural amenities and household appliances. The theoretical part deals mainly with the historical, economic and social context of the period under study. The practical part first presents the basic socio-economic characteristics of the two regions. It includes an analysis of each region according to the following criteria: the level of the average wage, the level of total income and expenditure and its structure, the availability of health care, the availability of nurseries, the availability of education, the availability of cultural amenities and the level of equipment with household appliances. A subsequent comparison of the two regions concludes that the hypothesis can only be partially verified. The total incomes of the inhabitants of the South Bohemian Region were significantly lower than in the West Bohemian Region, which was also reflected in expenditure. At the same time, the residents of the South Bohemian Region invested more money in goods, due to less availability of services in the region. In addition, health care was less available in the region, both in terms of the number of inhabitants per hospital and the number per doctor. |
