The Analysis of Potential Impacts of Introducing Tuition Fees on Students of the University of Economics in Prague and Charles University (2024)

The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to determine the impacts that students would bear with the introduction of tuition fees at public universities in the Czech Republic. The research is limited to students from the University of Economics, Prague, and Charles University, with their results compared. Three hypotheses were established for research purposes, representing the objectives of the study. The first hypothesis anticipated that students generally would not be willing to accept tuition fees. The second hypothesis assumed that students from the University of Economics, Prague would be more tolerant towards paying tuition fees. The third hypothesis expected a general increase in motivation to study, leading to a rise in students' ambitions and long-term goals. The results of this study confirmed the first hypothesis that students generally oppose the introduction of tuition fees. The second and third hypotheses were rejected based on data analysis and synthesis. Another finding of the research is that tuition fees are considered by students as a key factor in choosing a study field. From a financial perspective, tuition fees would primarily restrict students in the areas of accommodation, meals, and leisure activities.
