Using the Internet of Things in a lean administration environment

Lean management and the Internet of Things are current concepts in organisations. Lean management improves processes, while IoT connects our physical reality with the digital world. Both concepts tend to focus on production processes, while services and office processes have not been explored as much in this approach. Therefore, the aim of the thesis was to investigate the integration of IoT and Lean Office to find potential improvements within office spaces and processes. The practical part focused on energy consumption and asset management issues within the office and administration. Both projects were subjected to the DMAIC improvement cycle. The improvement and control phases were carried out for Lean Office and IoT separately and then combined. The results of each improvement phase were then analysed for the effect of the approach. The IoT systems proved more effective than the Lean Office approach in both projects. The combination of the two approaches follows a positive effect where both combinations produced a higher level of improvement than the sub-approaches alone.
