Analysis of the Czech economy's preparedness for the loss of autonomous monetary policy from the perspective of labour factor flexibility

| Abstract: | Tato práce se zabývá analýzou připravenosti české ekonomiky na ztrátu autonomní měnové politiky z pohledu flexibility výrobního faktoru práce. Předmětem analýzy je flexibilita trhu práce a migrace pracovní síly v České republice. Současně je tato analýza doplněna komparací s ekonomikami Německa, Rakouska a Slovenska. Cílem práce je porovnat připravenost České republiky na hypotetický vstup do eurozóny v roce 2024 s obdobím plnění maastrichtských konvergenčních kritérií v letech 2013–2016. Dalším cílem práce je vyhodnocení plnění Mundellova kritéria vnitřní mobility a vnější imobility pracovní síly v rámci měnové oblasti v sousedních ekonomikách. Z výsledků analýzy je patrné, že v porovnání s obdobím let 2013–2016 je český pracovní trh a česká pracovní síla v roce 2024 mírně flexibilnější, resp. mobilnější. Sledované sousední státy však Mundellovo kritérium neplní dostatečně, z čehož lze usuzovat, že by ho neplnila ani Česká republika po svém vstupu do eurozóny. Autor pomocí teorií migrace dochází k závěru, že eurozóna je pravděpodobně stále velmi mladou měnovou oblastí na to, aby toto kritérium plnila. |

| Abstract: | This bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the Czech economy's preparedness for the loss of autonomous monetary policy from the perspective of the flexibility of the production factor of labour. The subject of the analysis is labour market flexibility and labour migration in the Czech Republic. At the same time, this analysis is complemented by a comparison with the economies of Germany, Austria and Slovakia. The aim of the thesis is to compare the Czech Republic's readiness to hypothetical join the euro area in 2024 with the period of fulfilment of the Maastricht convergence criteria in 2013–2016. Another aim of the thesis is to evaluate the fulfilment of Mundell's criterion of internal mobility and external immobility of labour within the currency area in neighbouring economies. The results of the analysis show that compared to the period 2013–2016, the Czech labour market and the Czech labour force in 2024 are slightly more flexible and mobile, respectively. However, the monitored neighbouring countries do not fulfil the Mundell criterion sufficiently, which suggests that the Czech Republic would not fulfil it either after its accession to the euro area. The author uses migration theory to conclude that the euro area is probably still too young a currency area to fulfil this criterion. |
