Mayors' concerns with social housing

Social housing is a perennial topic in public administration at both national and local levels. It is considered an issue that repeatedly emerges within the politically attractive social sphere, which is often of interest to voters and residents. The implementation of social housing is, among other things, a legal obligation of municipal mayors. Currently, in the Czech Republic, we do not have comprehensive data systematically mapping the position of mayors, their experiences, visions, and overall awareness of the topic of social housing in the municipalities they manage. The empirical part of this work is therefore focused on a research sample consisting of mayors of municipalities in the Central Bohemian Region with a population of 5-10 thousand inhabitants, which could be the first step in supplementing the missing knowledge in the researched area. For this purpose, the research utilizes qualitative methods of semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis for data collection and evaluation. Despite the methodological limitations associated with the chosen research design, the obtained results suggest that there are topics within the mayors' field of interest that are widespread across municipalities and demand our attention. From the above, it follows that the topic of social housing, from the perspective of mayors, offers promising opportunities for further research and a more detailed examination of the indicated correlations.
