Economic impact of migration (example of Germany and Lithuania)

The thesis is concerned with determining the impact of migration on the economies of selected countries, in particular Germany and Lithuania. The theoretical part covers the basic concepts related to migration, describes its types and the reasons that lead humanity to migrate. Furthermore, the impact of migration flows on the labour market, national budget, economic development and demographic, social changes, both for the receiving and sending country is described. The practical part first assesses the latest trends in the dynamics of international migration in the EU countries and the current developments regarding the ways in which these countries regulate the inflow of migrants. The fourth chapter, like chapter five, builds on the theoretical findings and analyses the impact of the number of immigrants on unemployment, average wages, government spending, GDP and remittances on the basis of recent data on the number of immigrants in Germany. The country's migration policy and social research described here indicate how Germany is trying to cope with the influx of migrants and what possible changes can be expected in terms of local attitudes towards migrants. The fifth section contains the same as the fourth, but is devoted to an analysis of emigration in Lithuania. The thesis concludes with a summary of the impact of migration, its positive and negative aspects.
